Reader Response: Skeletal Muscle and Peripheral Nerve Histopathology in COVID-19

We read with interest the study by Suh et al.1 The authors concluded that muscle and nerve damage was secondary to inflammatory response and cytokine storm, rather than direct viral infection. Nonetheless, the authors did not perform histopathologic examinations in symptomatic patients. Consequently, viral RNA may have been cleared from muscle and nerve tissue preceding cell death.1
