Inflammatory myopathy related to Chikungunya virus: a case report


Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is endemic in some areas worldwide. It’s transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes and produce CHIKV fever. Rheumatic manifestations are common in all the stages of CHIKV infection. Myalgia is frequent and rhabdomyolysis has been exceptionally reported remaining the muscle involvement in this disease not well known. A patient with a sub-acute myopathy was studied by clinical evaluation, laboratory and EMG investigations, MRI and muscle biopsy. A 23 years old woman from Honduras suffered CHIKV fever.
