Palliative medicine and neuromuscular disorders in adults- pilot symptom control clinic patient satisfaction and intervention efficacy


Patients with inherited neuromuscular disorders are generally not cared for by Palliative care services and as such many adult palliative care services have little knowledge of these conditions. As the prognosis of conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy have improved such that patients are living into adulthood and as such symptom control and advanced care planning are areas that need to be explored. We have completed a 12-month pilot ‘symptom control’ clinic with the local palliative care team for the region.
