The influence of personal assistance on employment outcomes for young adults with neuromuscular disease

Thanks to advances in therapies and clinical care, youth with neuromuscular disease now are living into adulthood. If properly supported in their environment, young adults with neuromuscular diseases requiring significant caregiving can successfully engage in competitive employment. This study uses a qualitative, phenomenological approach to examine the lived experiences of young adults with neuromuscular disease and their perceptions of the ways in which their use of personal assistance services (PAS) impacted employment.
