Despite the great advance in molecular genetics, the histopathological evaluation of muscle remains an essential element in the diagnostic study of muscle diseases. The precise clinical selection of the patients, the obtaining of adequate samples for histopathological analysis and the correct use of histochemical and immunohistochemical techniques are considered essential for the adequate performance of the muscular histopathological study. In order to evaluate the usefulness of the muscle histopathological study in children, a descriptive, retrospective study of muscle biopsies performed at the Clinical Hospital of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile was carried out.
