Oral bisphosphonate treatment in patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy on long term glucocorticoid therapy

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is an incurable X-linked recessive inherited muscle disease associated with absent dystrophin that occurs in approximately 1 in 3500 to 5000 boys [1]. Patients with DMD typically progress to loss of ambulation by the age of 12 years and die in their twenties from cardiac or pulmonary complications.
