A pair of MRI scans showing the imaging pattern of Bornavirus‐1 encephalitis. The left hand image shows a normal MRI scan on the left, and a drawing on the right of the most affected areas of the brain, which are in warmer colors (yellow to red indicating progressively greater involvement). The right hand image shows a FLAIR image of the brain of a patient 35 days after onset of symptoms, with the lighter areas illustrating greater degree of damage in this case. Note that the insular cortex and striatum tend to be particularly injured. See Finck et al., pp. 723‐735.
