Recurrently failing to attend (FTA) hospital appointments has been reported as a risk factor for early death in DMD. Appropriately timed treatment to address the natural progression of the condition and its complications has been shown to impact survival and quality of life. It is therefore essential that patients with progressive neuromuscular conditions are regularly seen in a specialised neuromuscular centre. Although some patients may not wish to be seen in outpatient clinics, we have a duty to ensure patients make informed decisions about their follow up care.
