  • The role of mouthguards in the prevention of oro-facial trauma
The role of a sports mouthguard has been well established as one of protecting teeth from trauma particularly during contact sports. The aim of this study is to review the roles of sports mouthguard at both an elite and recreational level. From the history of the first mouthguards, to a modern custom-made mouthguard, the role […]
  • Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping in the Assessment of Single and Repeated Closed Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that compared with single mTBI, repetitive mTBI has a compound effect. QSM can detect the changes of magnetic susceptibility in brain tissue after mTBI, and link neurobiochemical changes to MRI data. Therefore, using QSM to detect mTBI-related pathophysiology is credible and feasible.
  • Is skull fracture associated with post-traumatic benign paroxysmal positional vertigo? An observational study
CONCLUSION: The risk of post-traumatic BPPV increased with increasing age, plus in those with combined skull and facial fractures when compared to those without a skull fracture. We advocate routine BPPV screening of those with aTBI, especially in older adults and those with combined facial and skull fractures.
  • A pilot study evaluating early psychosocial risk and brain health outcomes in Veterans with mild TBI
The goal of this pilot study was to describe the relationship between early psychosocial risk (i.e., adverse childhood experiences, neighborhood disadvantage, multiple relocations) and brain health outcomes among Veterans with mild TBI. Veterans (N = 76) with mild TBI participated at an outpatient VA. This cross-sectional study involved the collection and analysis of retrospective self-report […]
  • Chronic traumatic encephalopathy
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by repetitive head impacts from contact sports, physical violence, and other causes. The urgency of the problem is due to the high incidence of pathology, not only in adults, but, most importantly, in the pediatric population. The paper presents a review of the literature in databases […]
