  • Social Determinants of Health Influence Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Symptom Burden: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSION: In addition to the expected patient and injury characteristics, fraction living in poverty was a significant variable contributing to scores on the RPQ-3 and RPQ-13. Efforts to incorporate screening for SDOH factors should be considered to identify patients at risk of poor recovery after mild TBI.
  • Revealing gender differences in concussion reporting: a detailed analysis of SCAT assessment self-report symptom ratings
INTRODUCTION: Current concussion assessments used by the NCAA are generally applied to both male and female athletes to evaluate the effects of sports-related head impacts. However, increasing evidence indicates that female athletes show different physiological and psychosocial responses to concussions compared to their male counterparts, raising concerns about the suitability of gender blind concussion assessments.
  • Head injuries in Iceland: Analysis of visits to Landspitali University Hospital for head injuries, 2010-2023
CONCLUSION: Despite the reduction in head injury cases in recent years, head injuries remain a substantial public health problem. Strengthened epidemiological data collection is needed to support policymaking, especially for vulnerable age groups. There is a growing need for integrated services for both older adults and young people in risk groups.
  • Impact characteristics of suspected concussions in elite Gaelic football and hurling: a video-based analysis
CONCLUSION: The findings underscore the need for targeted rule enforcement, player education, and management to reduce concussion risk in Gaelic football and hurling.
  • Exploring exercise intolerance in adult patients with persistent post-concussion symptoms after mild traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: Exercise intolerance was confirmed in over 80% of the patients. Assessments of exercise intolerance might contribute to a broader understanding and improved rehabilitation of these patients.
