  • Study of ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase-L1, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and interleukin-6 levels in an experimental head trauma model in rabbits
CONCLUSION: Serum UCH-L1 differentiated moderate and severe trauma from controls in a rabbit model, whereas CSF GFAP and IL-6 levels reflected severe injury. Validation in larger preclinical and clinical studies is warranted.
  • Correlation of Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter With Severity and Outcome in Head Injury: Ultrasonographic and CT Evaluation
Objective This study aimed to determine the extent to which ultrasonographic and computed tomographic (CT) measurements of the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) correlate with the prognosis and severity of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Methodology A prospective cohort study was conducted among 200 adult patients admitted to a Level 1 trauma center over one year. […]
  • Admission blood glucose and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for differentiating CT-positive from CT-negative mild traumatic brain injury
This study aimed to assess the diagnostic utility of routine laboratory biomarkers in adults with mTBI. We conducted a prospective study of patients who were admitted to the neurosurgical department with mTBI, had admission laboratory data available, and a brain CT scan was performed. The cohort included 101 patients (mean age: 59 ± 23.14 years). […]
  • Bidirectional Relationship Between Mental Health and Sports Injury in Adolescents: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: We found evidence for a bidirectional relationship between sports injuries and mental health in adolescent athletes. Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying this relationship. Early interventions focusing on supporting mental health after sports injury, and addressing pre-existing mental health issues to reduce the risk of subsequent injury, should be tailored towards […]
  • Does Timing of Concussion in Season Affect Incidence and Recovery in Division I Collegiate Football Players? A CARE Consortium Study
CONCLUSIONS: In a multi-institution cohort of collegiate football players, preseason resulted in the highest incidence of concussions, while early and late-season concussions had significantly longer time to SR compared to preseason. These temporal patterns suggest that contextual factors may influence concussion outcomes and warrant mechanistic investigation to inform future management strategies.
