  • Aldehydic load as an objective imaging biomarker of mild traumatic brain injury
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is neurological impairment induced by biomechanical forces without structural brain damage, currently without an objective diagnostic tool. Downstream injury stems from oxidative damage leading to the production of neurotoxic aldehydes. A collagen-based 3D corticomimetic in vitro model of concussion was developed, confirming aldehyde production following impact. Total aldehyde levels were […]
  • Advancing next-generation brain organoid platforms for investigating traumatic brain injury from repeated blast exposures
Service members and law enforcement personnel are frequently exposed to blast overpressure during training and combat due to the use of heavy weaponry such as large-caliber rifles, explosives, and ordnance. The cumulative effects of these repeated low-level (
  • Plasma levels of biomarkers associated with vasodilation and neuroinflammation in pediatric patients with head trauma and their relationship with clinical characteristics of patients
CONCLUSION: Evaluation of pediatric patients with head trauma together with these neuropeptides may provide great benefits in deciding whether to perform radiography such as CT. However, due to the relatively low sensitivities in ROC analysis and small sample size, further studies are warranted before they may be used as a screening test to distinguish CT-positive […]
  • Factors Influencing End-of-Life Decisions in Cancer Patients After Traumatic Injuries
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with metastatic cancer, regardless of chemotherapy status, had up to three times higher odds of WLST after traumatic injury. The presence of ADs was also strongly linked to increased WLST, emphasizing the importance of patient preferences and personalized care approaches in end-of-life decisions for cancer patients in trauma settings.
  • Individuals with persisting post-concussion symptoms with physiological subtype demonstrate altered cardiovascular and autonomic responses to face cooling
Individuals with persisting post-concussion symptoms with physiological subtype (PPCS-P) demonstrate exercise intolerance due to exacerbation of concussion-like symptoms during incremental exercise. We tested the hypothesis that individuals with PPCS-P (n = 12) would have a blunted cardiac autonomic response to face cooling compared to healthy controls (CTRL, n = 12). Participants were supine and performed […]
