  • Vestibular dysfunction after mild traumatic brain injury: A systematic review
Objective: Vestibular system dysfunction (VD), a condition characterized by impairments in balance, spatial orientation, and eye movement control, is frequently encountered after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). We reviewed the existing literature on the various forms of post-traumatic VD and discuss the epidemiology and natural history, diagnostic methods, assessment tools, and therapeutic interventions crucial to […]
  • Tools for Diagnosing and Managing Sport-Related Concussion in UK Primary Care: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS: SCAT6, SCOAT6, BIST, and BCPE could enhance SRC care, but their feasibility in UK primary care requires adaptation (e.g., integration with GP IT systems and alignment with NICE guidelines). Further research is required to validate these tools and assess additional training needs.
  • Elite Ice Hockey Players' Well-Being: A Scoping Review
As mental health has gained prominence in recent years, elite ice hockey players have shared their experience of psychological problems, including adverse alcohol use, anxiety, depression, distress, eating disorders, and sleep disturbances. Mental health remains a sensitive issue for ice hockey players, as stigma, a strong hockey culture, lack of mental health literacy, and negative […]
  • A Proof-of-Concept Study Investigating the Effects of Transcranial Plus Intranasal Photobiomodulation on Cognitive Function after Repetitive Head Acceleration Events
Objective: Investigate the effects of transcranial plus intranasal photobiomodulation (PBM) treatment on cognitive function, using an 810 nm light emitting diode headset and intranasal applicator every other day for 8-10 weeks. Background Data: An effective gold standard for the rehabilitation of repetitive head acceleration events (RHAEs) does not yet exist. Methods: Forty-four participants with a […]
  • Predictors for delayed presentation to a specialty concussion clinic following sport-related concussion
CONCLUSIONS: In high school-aged athletes with SRCs, psychiatric history, family history of migraine, and absence of on-field evaluation were predictors of delayed presentation to a specialty concussion clinic presentation. These findings highlight opportunities to improve timely access to a dedicated sports concussion center, which may improve outcomes through early intervention.
