  • Vertical Heterophoria and Vestibular Symptoms in Military Personnel with Chronic mTBI
CONCLUSIONS: In this population of military personnel with a history of chronic mTBI, both persistent vestibular complaints and vertical heterophoria were prevalent. The study showed that elevated vertical vergence imbalance between the two eyes was significantly correlated with more vestibular symptoms in patients with chronic mTBI. Vertical heterophoria may be a useful clinical technique; however, […]
  • Therapeutic VEGFC treatment provides protection against traumatic-brain-injury-driven tauopathy pathogenesis
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) increases one's risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and tauopathy. Yet, the mechanisms linking TBI to neurodegenerative disease remain poorly defined. Mounting recent evidence indicates that defects in brain lymphatic drainage contribute to multiple neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we investigated whether promoting brain lymphatic drainage recuperation following TBI via treatment with the lymphangiogenic […]

  • Social Determinants of Health Influence Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Symptom Burden: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSION: In addition to the expected patient and injury characteristics, fraction living in poverty was a significant variable contributing to scores on the RPQ-3 and RPQ-13. Efforts to incorporate screening for SDOH factors should be considered to identify patients at risk of poor recovery after mild TBI.
  • Revealing gender differences in concussion reporting: a detailed analysis of SCAT assessment self-report symptom ratings
INTRODUCTION: Current concussion assessments used by the NCAA are generally applied to both male and female athletes to evaluate the effects of sports-related head impacts. However, increasing evidence indicates that female athletes show different physiological and psychosocial responses to concussions compared to their male counterparts, raising concerns about the suitability of gender blind concussion assessments.
