  • Exo70 Protects Against Memory and Synaptic Impairments Following Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), a leading cause of disability in young adults, often results from external forces that damage the brain. Cellularly, mTBI induces oxidative stress, characterized by excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) and diminished antioxidant capacity. This redox imbalance disrupts hippocampal glutamatergic transmission and synaptic plasticity, where NMDA receptors (NMDARs) are crucial. The […]
  • Neurocognitive Outcomes After Extracranial Surgery and General Anesthesia in Patients with a History of Mild-to-Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury: Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis
Accelerated neurocognitive decline associated with surgeries under general anesthesia (GA), a phenomenon referred to as postoperative neurocognitive disorder (PND), is a significant public health concern. It not only poses inherent risks but may also contribute to the development of other neurodegenerative disorders. We systematically searched five databases for studies examining cognitive function in patients with […]
  • The Diagnostic and Prognostic Role of Biomarkers in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: An Umbrella Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The findings underscore the clinical promise of fluid biomarkers in the management of mTBI. S100B and GFAP are particularly valuable as screening and confirmatory markers, respectively. Nonetheless, further standardization of biomarker thresholds and additional longitudinal studies are necessary to validate the roles of UCH-L1, NfL, and Tau protein. The integration of these biomarkers into […]
  • Mechanisms Underlying Hyperexcitability: Combining Mossy Fiber Sprouting and Mossy Cell Loss in Neural Network Model of the Dentate Gyrus
Background/Objectives: A concussive head injury increases the likelihood of temporal lobe epilepsy through mechanisms that are not entirely understood. This study aimed to investigate how two key histopathological features shared by both TLE (temporal lobe epilepsy) and head injury-mossy fiber sprouting and hilar excitatory cell loss-contribute to the modulation of dentate gyrus excitability. Methods: A […]
  • Neurobiology of Chronic Pain, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSIONS: Common therapeutic processes, such as focusing on sensitization, might be helpful for these conditions. As for causal mechanisms related to sensitization in the causality of psychological injuries, the major ones hypothesized relate to the biopsychosocial model, psychological control, and activation-inhibition coordination.
