Research

  • Subjective cognitive functioning in adults hospitalized after traumatic brain injury: A four-year follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that subjective cognitive functioning is poorer than normative values and fairly stable over four years after TBI, with a slight decrease between 4 and 24-36 months, and is similar between mild and moderate-severe TBI.
  • Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Impairs Fear Extinction and Network Excitability in the Infralimbic Cortex
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of morbidity and disability, with mild TBI (concussions) representing over 80% of cases. Although often considered benign, mild TBI is associated with persistent neuropsychiatric conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression. A hallmark of these conditions is impaired fear extinction (FE), the process by which learned […]
  • Task Practice With and Without Aerobic Exercise Improves Health-related Quality of Life and Social Participation Post-stroke: A Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSIONS: Both interventions were comparably effective in improving HRQoL despite the FE+RTP group receiving only half the dose of RTP compared to the control group (RTP only). Improvements were maintained up to 1 year post-intervention.
  • Traumatic Venous Sinus Thrombosis: Patient and Practice Patterns at a Major Trauma Center
CONCLUSIONS: Differences between treatment groups should be cautiously interpreted due to selection bias and confounding by indication. More studies are needed to determine the optimal management of tVST.
  • Posttraumatic headache and clinical recovery after pediatric concussion
CONCLUSIONS: Onset of PTH was associated with worse PCS up to 8 weeks after pediatric concussion. Chronic PTH and new PTH were associated with moderately poorer fluid cognitive functioning up to 6 months postinjury. Pain declined over time regardless of PTH type.
