  • Admission blood glucose and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for differentiating CT-positive from CT-negative mild traumatic brain injury
This study aimed to assess the diagnostic utility of routine laboratory biomarkers in adults with mTBI. We conducted a prospective study of patients who were admitted to the neurosurgical department with mTBI, had admission laboratory data available, and a brain CT scan was performed. The cohort included 101 patients (mean age: 59 ± 23.14 years). […]
  • Does Timing of Concussion in Season Affect Incidence and Recovery in Division I Collegiate Football Players? A CARE Consortium Study
CONCLUSIONS: In a multi-institution cohort of collegiate football players, preseason resulted in the highest incidence of concussions, while early and late-season concussions had significantly longer time to SR compared to preseason. These temporal patterns suggest that contextual factors may influence concussion outcomes and warrant mechanistic investigation to inform future management strategies.
  • Ultra-high contrast MRI of the brain and spinal cord using directly acquired and synthetic BipoLAr Inversion Recovery (BLAIR) images
Ultra-high contrast (UHC) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a term used to describe magnetic resonance (MR) imaging that shows abnormalities with high contrast when little or no abnormality is seen on common conventional state-of-the-art MR images. It is achieved without the use of increased static or gradient magnetic fields. UHC can be accomplished by using […]
  • Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Music Therapy for Concussion: A Case Report
Effective treatments for mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) are limited and are insufficient to address patient symptoms and recovery. We report a case of an mTBI patient with debilitating visual symptoms who experienced profound symptom relief and increased functional capacity after music therapy (MT) (passive listening to specific music pieces). After other mTBI patients reported […]

Introduction and aim There is a lack of research investigating the knowledge and attitudes of youth ice hockey players and their parents toward concussion in the United Kingdom. This is a topic of increasing concern given the well-known risks associated with contact sports. Previous research in this area has primarily come from North America. The […]
