  • Assessing knowledge and attitudes towards sports-related concussion among university students in Saudi Arabia: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Although university students in Saudi Arabia generally have good knowledge and attitudes towards concussion, there are notable gaps in symptom recognition and safe concussion behaviours. These findings highlight the need for targeted, region-specific concussion education programmes.
  • Stabilizing microtubules increases acute cellular injury at high strain rates
Mechanical strain is a key contributor to mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), yet the impact of varying strain magnitudes and strain rates on cellular function and disease remain poorly understood. In this study, we examined acute membrane damage responses to mechanical strain in SH-SY5Y cells and the modulatory roles of tau phosphorylation and microtubule stability […]
  • Pre-injury sleep disturbance as a moderator of cognitive functioning in children and adolescents with mild traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that pre-existing sleep disturbances and mTBI are jointly associated with poorer executive functioning post-injury. Interventions to improve sleep might help mitigate the effects of mTBI on children's cognitive functioning.
  • Clinical Evaluation of the TBI Assay in a Representative Emergency Department Cohort
CONCLUSIONS: The TBI assay on the Alinity i platform demonstrated excellent sensitivity but showed limited specificity, particularly in patients >65 years. Our findings support the safe use of the TBI assay as a rule-out tool in the ED.
  • The Contribution of Aerospace Medicine Specialty Expertise in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Headache Disorders with Concomitant Clinically Symptomatic Dyscapnia (Respiratory Alkalosis/Acidosis)
PURPOSE OF REVIEW: A subset of patients with headache disorders presents with a dyscapnic state typically clinically symptomatic chronic respiratory alkalosis (CSCRA). CSCRA is well described as an important factor in increased neuromuscular irritability and reduces tissue oxygen delivery through reduction of cerebral blood flow (vasospasm) and left shift of the oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve, as […]
