  • Head Injuries in the Wild West: A Comparison of Head Injuries in English and Western Collegiate Equestrian Athletes
CONCLUSIONS: All equestrians have a high incidence of head injuries; however, Western riders reported a higher number of falls in the previous year than their English counterparts. In addition, Western riders reported less consistent helmet use when compared with their English counterparts, who are more likely to always wear helmets when riding. This study highlights […]
  • Sleep disturbance after pediatric and adolescent concussion
INTRODUCTION: Sleep disturbances following concussion are common. The goal of this study was to describe subjective reports of sleep disturbances for pediatric and adolescent patients, whether they predict prolonged recovery or moderate the relationship between comorbidities, symptom burden, and recovery.
  • Higher Cardiovascular Risk Factor Burden Associated With Cumulative Concussion History and Age-Related Differences
CONCLUSION: Given higher rates of diagnoses at earlier ages, findings support cardiovascular health as representing one pathway by which recurrent concussion may lead to adverse long-term outcomes in former contact sport athletes. A clinical preventative approach including early screening and management of CRF in those with greater history of concussion should be considered.
  • National Football League (NFL) "Dynamic Kickoff" Rule Change: A Comparative Analysis of Concussion and Musculoskeletal Injury Incidence
CONCLUSION: Our study showed that after the 2024 NFL kickoff rules were implemented, there was a significant increase in overall, lower extremity, and upper extremity injuries compared with the previous 2 seasons, as measured by the number of kickoffs and returns per year. The overall effect of the 2024 NFL kickoff rules on the incidence […]
  • Neuroprotective Serotonin 2A Receptor Peptide Significantly Reduced Hippocampal Inflammation in Rats Exposed to Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that the neuroprotective effects of SN..8 peptide may be due in part to its ability to substantially suppress subacute inflammation in the ventral hippocampus.
