  • Connecting the Dots: The Role of Pediatric Concussion on Pubertal Hormones and Psychological Health
PURPOSE: Psychological health issues resulting from emotional dysregulation such as anxiety and depression following pediatric concussion are a public health concern, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Puberty opens a window of vulnerability for emotion dysregulation and a link between pediatric concussion and hormonal deficits has been reported. We investigated the association between pubertal hormones […]
  • Structural Compression and Entorhinal Vulnerability: Linking Tentorial Adjacency to Tau Burden and Dementia Progression
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a growing public health crisis. The disease is defined neuropathologically by accumulation of amyloid-β plaques and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) composed of abnormal tau protein in the brain. Early neurofibrillary degeneration in the entorhinal cortex (EC) is a hallmark of AD and a critical initiating event in the hierarchical pathoanatomical progression. However, […]
  • Heightened noise sensitivity as a predictor of psychological prognosis in older adults with traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: Early-stage noise hypersensitivity after mTBI in older adults links to higher risk of mid- and late-stage adverse psychological prognosis (depression or anxiety). Whether noise hypersensitivity can predict post-injury psychological status in this population requires further verification.
  • Long-Term outcomes of mild traumatic brain injury in veterans of the second Nagorno-Karabakh war
CONCLUSION: Blast-related mTBI, especially when accompanied by AOC, is strongly associated with persistent post-concussive symptoms, independent of PTSD. AOC emerged as a more robust predictor of delayed recovery than LOC. These findings suggest that the persistence of PCS may reflect underlying neurophysiological effects of blast injury, not merely psychological stress. Long-term monitoring and targeted rehabilitation […]
  • Exploring suicidal ideation and self-harm after moderate-severe traumatic brain injury within a transdiagnostic framework
More research is needed on suicidal ideation (SI) and self-harm (SH) following moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Previous studies have shown limited, inconsistent associations with demographic and injury factors and relied on diagnosis-specific analyses of psychiatric factors. This cross-sectional survey included 387 individuals with moderate-severe TBI and examined correlations between SI, SH, and 35 other […]
