  • Biomarkers for prediction of chronic traumatic encephalopathy-like pathology following repeated mild traumatic brain injury in rats are partially sex- and age-dependent
INTRODUCTION: Repeated mild traumatic brain injuries (rmTBIs) pose a high risk of developing chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Since this neurodegenerative disease is diagnosed only post-mortem, new biomarkers for early detection are needed. Although age at injury and biological sex are important factors in many brain pathologies, little is known about their relevance to rmTBI-induced CTE-like […]
  • Profiles of cold executive function performance among pediatric acquired brain injury
CONCLUSIONS: Distinct executive function profiles were observed across ABI subtypes, with PAS associated with the most pervasive impairments, TBI with selective deficits, and BT with targeted planning difficulties. These findings highlight the importance of tailored cognitive rehabilitation strategies based on ABI subtype.
  • Longitudinal neurocognitive outcomes in children with mild traumatic brain injury: An ABCD cohort analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The findings highlight the importance of accounting for pre-injury differences when evaluating neurocognitive outcomes following pediatric mTBI. Neurocognitive differences within a year post-injury may be more related to pre-existing individual factors rather than the injury itself, underscoring the need for a comprehensive approach in studying pediatric mTBI.
  • Fear Avoidance after Concussion Tool (FACT): patient-reported outcome measure development and content validation
CONCLUSION: The FACT has been developed to evaluate fear avoidance behaviour following concussion and has content validity. Future research should evaluate other measurement properties before implementation.
  • Spare the brain: female football players' perspectives of heading the ball, concussion knowledge and attitudes. A qualitative study
The aim of this study was to explore female football (soccer) players' perspectives of heading the ball, and perceived header injury risk. A qualitative approach was undertaken using reflexive thematic analysis. Focus groups and individual interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide. Participants also completed a survey containing a validated concussion knowledge and attitudes […]
