• Regionally Specific Resting-State Beta Neural Power Predicts Brain Injury and Symptom Recovery in Adolescents with Concussion: A Longitudinal Study
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is common in adolescents. Magnetoencephalography (MEG) studies (primarily reporting on adult males) have demonstrated abnormal resting-state (RS) brain activity in mTBI. The present study sought to identify RS abnormalities in male and female adolescents with mTBI (no previous Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - 5th Edition diagnosis) identified […]
• Associations Between Blast Exposures and Intestinal Permeability and Neurotrauma Symptoms During Mortar Fire Military Tactical Training Operations
CONCLUSIONS: The present study in mortarmen corroborates our prior findings showing that exposures to LLB can contribute to IP that is also associated with prior mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) history, with concomitant decreases in self-reported cognitive functioning. These findings suggest a possible role of blast exposure in gut permeability and the importance of the […]
• Midlife plasma proteomic profiles indicate altered amyloid and tau processing in former elite rugby players
CONCLUSIONS: Ex-players showed distinctive plasma biomarker changes, more prominently in ex-forwards, possibly reflecting greater RHI exposure. Plasma KLK6, an endothelial serine protease, was reduced across the ex-player group, with potential diagnostic or prognostic utility in future. Reduced GFAP and SNAP25 in ex-forwards has an uncertain basis, while elevated p-tau-(181) more so than p-tau(217) points towards […]
• A Guide to the Interpretation and Reliability of Annual Collegiate ImPACT Baselines by Sex
CONCLUSIONS: This study found sex differences on ImPACT performance, suggesting that sex-specific MDC values are needed to evaluate significant changes in ImPACT scores. Additionally, this study found several ImPACT subtest scores to be unreliable, suggesting only moderate to good scores be used in clinical evaluation.
• Taking Control of Your Functional Cognitive Symptoms: Workbook-A Novel Intervention
CONCLUSIONS: This promising new multimodality behavioral health intervention can be considered to be in stage 1 (i.e., intervention generation, refinement, modification, adaptation, and pilot testing). Further pilot testing is being conducted and will need to be followed by traditional efficacy testing (in stage 2).
