  • Lower limb injuries and concussions dominate in collegiate women's ice hockey: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The overall injury incidence in collegiate-level women's ice hockey is considerable, with lower limb injuries being the most common injury location and concussions the most frequent injury type. This review establishes a baseline for injury patterns in women's collegiate ice hockey prior to the potential legalisation of body checking in all levels of women's […]
  • The Effect of Aerobic Exercise on Post-concussion Recovery in Athletes: A Narrative Review
Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), in particular sports-related concussions (SRCs), are a significant health concern for young athletes in the United States. Historically, treatment has consisted of prolonged physical and cognitive rest, requiring athletes to abstain from activity until symptoms resolve and physician clearance is obtained. However, emerging evidence suggests that the early introduction of light […]
  • Blood Glucose as a Prognostic Predictor of Traumatic Brain Injury in Patients That Underwent Surgical Intervention
CONCLUSION: Elevated initial blood glucose levels were associated with poorer outcomes in patients with TBI, especially in those with moderate TBI. Further research, including larger multicenter studies, is needed to validate our findings and explore optimal glucose management strategies.
  • An external validation of clinical-based score to predict traumatic intracranial hemorrhage on computed tomography scan and surgical intervention in mild traumatic brain injury patients
CONCLUSION: The clinical prediction score demonstrated acceptable and safe diagnostic performance in an external validation cohort, maintaining high sensitivity for critical outcomes. The score may be a useful tool to help guide management policy for MTBI patients, particularly in low- to middle-income countries.
  • Loss of CAMKK2 and iron-transport proteins-transferrin and its receptor-in the Alzheimer's disease hippocampus: link to tau pathology
INTRODUCTION: Calcium and iron are essential bioelements regulating neuronal function and survival. Dysregulation of calcium signaling and iron homeostasis is implicated in Alzheimer's disease (AD), contributing to oxidative stress, synaptic dysfunction, and neurodegeneration. Previously, using in vitro cell-based models and transgenic mice, we demonstrated that CAMKK2, a calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase, regulates iron transport via transferrin […]
