  • Concussive injuries induce neuronal stress-dependent tau mislocalization to dendritic spines with acrolein and functional network alteration in TBI-on-a-chip
Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD), and share several important pathological features including the development of neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) of tau protein. While this association is well established, the underlying pathogenesis is poorly defined and current treatment options remain limited, necessitating novel methods and approaches. In response we developed […]
  • Burden of Intracranial Hypertension and Patterns of Brain Injury on MRI: Secondary Analysis of the 2014-2017 "Approaches and Decisions for Acute Pediatric TBI" Study
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated ICP was prevalent in the ADAPT cohort. Ischemia and contusion were associated with the burden of ICP. Further research is needed to determine temporal relationships between elevated ICP and ischemia.
  • Player-Level Tackle Training Interventions in Tackle-Collision Sports: A Systematic Scoping Review
CONCLUSION: This review shows that a range of studies have been undertaken focusing on player-level training interventions. The quality of studies were rated as 'good', and all studies showed improvements in outcome measures. Coaches and policy makers should ensure tackle technique is profiled alongside other player characteristics, and an evidence-based approach to improving player tackling […]
  • Influences on the mental health and well-being of retired professional athletes from high contact team sports: a mixed methods systematic review
CONCLUSION: Retired HCTS athletes experience high levels of psychological distress and adverse alcohol use, but depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance were similar to population norms. These results call for greater support measures for retired athletes.
  • Quantifying Longitudinal Microstructural Changes in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Patients with Mean Apparent Propagator MRI
Mean apparent propagator MRI (MAP-MRI) quantifies subtle alterations in tissue microstructure noninvasively and provides a more nuanced and comprehensive assessment of tissue architectural and structural integrity compared with other diffusion MRI techniques. We investigate the sensitivity of MAP-MRI-derived quantitative imaging biomarkers to detect previously unseen microstructural damage in patients with mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI), […]
