  • Evaluation of sport-related concussion factors at baseline in a cohort of collegiate rugby union players
Sport-related concussion (SRC) is a growing concern in Rugby Union (RU) and SRC's relationship to intrinsic and extrinsic factors is unknown. A descriptive cross-sectional design was used to describe the relationship between these factors in collegiate RU players. Intrinsic and extrinsic factors included: age, weight, height, position of play (POP), previous SRCs, previous neck injuries; […]
  • Electroencephalographic findings and 5-year risk of posttraumatic epilepsy after mild traumatic brain injury: Insights from Second Karabakh War veterans
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the long-term risk of posttraumatic epilepsy (PTE) and psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in combat veterans and to evaluate the predictive value of early electroencephalographic (EEG) abnormalities and the impact of trauma mechanism (blast vs. nonblast).
  • An Exploratory Analysis and Comparison of Post-Concussion Symptom Networks in Young Adults with and without a Remote History of Concussion
CONCLUSIONS: The variability in symptom presentations demonstrates the utility of within-person network models to match individuals to rehabilitation plans that best reflect their ongoing symptom experience over time. Future research should replicate this statistical approach in acutely injured, treatment-seeking individuals following concussion to determine if patterns of sleep impairments are truly specific to post-concussion presentations.
  • Validation of embedded PCL-5 symptom validity indices in active-duty military population
CONCLUSION: These findings provide support for the cross-validation of all three embedded symptom validity indices at the identified cutoff scores as PCL-5 over-report measures within an active-duty sample. The PSS and PES demonstrated superior classification statistics, as the PRI was hampered by lower sensitivity.
  • Depressive Symptoms in Concussed Youth Athletes: Factor Analysis of the Patient Health Questionnaire Modified for Adolescents (PHQ-A)
The presentation of depression symptoms in concussed youth athletes is not well understood. We examined the PHQ-A factor structure in concussed youth athletes. Five hundred and ninety-five youth athletes completed the PHQ-A and PCSS within 30 days of sport-related concussion. Factor analyses of the PHQ-A alone revealed a two-factor structure: cognitive-energy/sleep and emotional symptoms. When […]
