  • Assessment of the DTI-ALPS Index in Adolescents With Sport-Related Concussion
BACKGROUND: Sport-related concussion (SRC) can be associated with glymphatic system dysfunction that may be assessed using the diffusion tensor imaging along the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) index. Here, DTI-ALPS between adolescent athletes within 10 days of SRC and after recovery with control adolescents are compared, and associations between the DTI-ALPS and clinical outcomes are explored.
  • Computed Tomography Scan Rates and Outcomes in Children Risk-Stratified Using the PREDICT Guideline Algorithm for Risk Stratification of Mild and Moderate Head Injuries
CONCLUSIONS: The PREDICT Guideline algorithm risk stratifies head injuries into high, intermediate, low, and very low risk patients. Two of the missed lower risk patients required neurosurgery.
  • Age, power, and sport-related concussion. Is there a tension between sport performance and concussion risk in tackle football?
Sport-related concussion (SRC) poses a barrier to otherwise health-promoting sport participation. Tackle Football (American Football) is a popular sport with an elevated risk of SRC, which prioritises strength and conditioning. The association between physical performance, notably lower body maximal muscle power and concussion rate, is not well understood in youth tackle football. This prospective cohort […]
  • A Randomized Sham-Controlled Trial of Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback Following Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is often associated with autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysregulation and reduced heart rate variability (HRV), potentially affecting cognition. This study tested whether HRV biofeedback (HRV-B) improved resting HRV and stress recovery in individuals with TBI compared to sham control. We also examined whether HRV changes related to physical symptoms, emotional well-being, […]
  • Auditory event-related potentials show both auditory and non-auditory associations with chronic mild traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: Auditory cortical response changes observed for higher exposure to blast or combat mild TBI and blast exposures were not attributable to auditory dysfunction or current psychological distress. In contrast, mild TBI with PTA predicted auditory cortical responses with behavioral consequences for speech processing in noise.
