  • Response to Training in Emotion Recognition Function for Mild TBI/PTSD Survivors: Pilot Study
CONCLUSIONS: Our data show promising clinical potential and warrant future research, given the importance of developing novel interventions to train and restore recognition of emotion in Veterans with mTBI/PTSD.
  • Post-Concussion Syndrome and Functional Neurological Disorder: Diagnostic Interfaces, Risk Mechanisms, and the Functional Overlay Model
CONCLUSIONS: PCS and FND/FCD should be conceptualized along a continuum of brain dysfunction, shaped by injury, psychology, and contextual factors. Early recognition of functional overlays and stratified psychological interventions may improve outcomes for patients with persistent, medically unexplained symptoms after head trauma. This review introduces the Functional Overlay Model as a novel framework to enhance […]
  • Neurological Disorders and Clinical Progression in Boxers from the 20th Century: A Narrative Review
Introduction: There are no validated clinical diagnostic criteria for chronic traumatic encephalopathy or traumatic encephalopathy syndrome (TES). To understand the historical clinical condition, its applicability to modern day athletes, and the pathogenesis of clinical problems, we examined the literature describing boxers from the 20th century, with specific attention paid to neurological findings and characteristics of […]
  • Three-Month Durability of Bilateral Two-Level Stellate Ganglion Blocks for Traumatic Brain Injury: A Retrospective Analysis
Background/Objectives: The primary aim of the study was to determine if ultrasound-guided, bilateral, two-level stellate ganglion blocks (SGBs), also known as two-level cervical sympathetic chain blocks (2LCSBs), performed on subsequent days, improve symptoms of chronic mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) over a three-month period, as assessed by the Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory (NSI). A secondary objective […]
  • Trends and Risk Factors for the Hospitalization of Older Adults Presenting to Emergency Departments After a Bed-Related Fall: A National Database Analysis
Background/objectives: Falls are a leading cause of traumatic injury and hospitalization for adults over the age of 65. While common, bed-related falls are relatively understudied when compared to ambulatory falls. The aim of this study is to characterize the risk factors for the hospitalization of older adults presenting to U.S. emergency departments (EDs) after a […]
