  • Brain creatine concentrations are associated with sex and symptom severity after concussion: a cross-sectional MR-spectroscopy investigation of adolescents with concussion
CONCLUSION: Post-concussion sex differences in creatine concentrations were detected, as higher creatine levels moderately correlated with patient-reported outcomes. Creatine may reflect altered energy dynamics in the brain. The absence of a non-injured control group limits determination of whether these differences are concussion-specific or reflective of baseline physiology.
  • Management of the paediatric patient with acute head trauma
Acute head trauma (AHT) leading to traumatic brain injury is an important cause of paediatric morbidity and mortality. Injury severity depends on the mechanism of trauma and age of the child. The vast majority of childhood AHT cases are mild, require no therapy, and leave no long-term sequelae. However, it is important to identify individuals […]
  • Appropriateness of imaging requests for pediatric traumatic brain injury in the emergency department: a retrospective cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: A significant gap exists between clinical practice and guideline-based imaging for pediatric TBI in Chile. Reinforcing validated decision tools may help optimize imaging use and minimize unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Potential of Stearidonic Acid Ethanolamide in a Model of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury in Mice
Chronic neuroinflammation is recognized as a pivotal mechanism responsible for secondary damage following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), underscoring the critical need for therapeutic strategies capable of mitigating this pathological process. This study evaluated the anti-inflammatory properties of stearidonic acid ethanolamide (SDEA, C20H33NO2). The findings indicate that mTBI triggers persistent neuroinflammation, which is correlated with […]
  • Stability of salivary microRNA measures across an NCAA Division I football season: Implications for microRNA as a biomarker of concussion
CONCLUSIONS: Our study found no significant differences in time points for target microRNA, but ICC statistics indicated low reliability across the season. These findings suggest that microRNA expression may be variable throughout the season regardless of concussive trauma, and clinicians should be aware that changes in microRNA expression should not be directly attributed to concussive […]
