  • Adaptive trial for the treatment of depressive symptoms associated with concussion using accelerated intermittent theta burst stimulation (ADEPT): rationale, design and methods
Military service members (SMs) and veterans who have sustained one or more concussions during their service have significantly higher rates of persistent depressive symptoms and suicidality compared to non-injured peers. Despite over 500,000 SMs who have sustained concussions, there are currently no Level I evidence-based treatments for improving depressive symptoms associated with concussion. Accelerated intermittent […]
  • Dietary Intake of n-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Prior to a Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Demonstrates a Dose-Response Effect for Neuroprotective Benefits in Male C57BL/6 Mice
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, these results show that dietary n-3 PUFA confer neuroprotective benefits in mice resulting in significantly improved functional outcomes. This work is relevant to clinical practitioners, athletes, and the general population who aim to support their neurological health through dietary or supplementary n-3 PUFA.
  • Differential DNA Methylation of the Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Gene is Observed after Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury Compared to Orthopedic Injury
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: BDNF DNAm appears to differ in children with TBI vs OI, particularly in the acute period. BDNF DNAm differences may reflect early biological responses that are specific to TBI.
  • Multimodal Magnetic Resonance Imaging with Mild Repetitive Head Injury in Awake Rats: Modeling the Human Experience and Clinical Condition
Mild repetitive head injury is a serious health problem with long-term negative consequences. Changes in brain neurobiology were assessed with MRI in a model of head injury designed to reflect the human experience. Rats were maintained on a reverse light-dark cycle and head impacted daily at 24 h intervals over three days while fully awake […]
  • Microstructural Damage Progression in the Pia-Arachnoid Complex
Traumatic brain injury is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, with mild traumatic brain injury comprising the majority of cases. The pia-arachnoid complex (PAC), located at the brain-skull interface, plays a critical role in brain mechanics during head impacts, yet its response to mechanical loading is understudied. This study investigates the progression of […]
