  • Factor analysis of neuropsychological attention measures with mild traumatic brain injury patients
This study explored the factor structure of commonly used neuropsychological tests to assess attention in individuals with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Archival data were drawn from 269 patients (63% women; M_age = 47.8, SD = 14.6) seen at a private outpatient clinic between 2018 and 2023. Participants self-identified primarily as White (84%), with additional […]
  • AQP4 in cerebrospinal fluid correlates with severity and prognosis in moderate to severe traumatic brain injury
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Despite advances in acute care and neurological intensive care units, predicting long-term outcomes for TBI patients remains challenging. Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) has emerged as a potential biomarker for assessing TBI severity and prognosis. Our goal is to evaluate AQP4 as a novel agent […]
  • A medieval approach to head Injuries: exploring the contributions of Ibn Zakariya al-Razi (865-925) during the golden era of Islamic medicine
CONCLUSION: By integrating clinical reasoning with practical treatment, al-Razi moved beyond rigid Galenic frameworks, laying the foundations for more advanced neurosurgical concepts. His work exemplifies the enduring global impact of medieval Islamic scholarship and the importance of intercultural medical exchange.
  • Evaluating cognitive performance using cognitive performance using the National Institutes of Health Toolbox Cognitive Battery in children with traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSIONS: The NIH TB-CB detects worse cognitive functioning in children with severe TBI six-twelve months post-injury, largely driven by differences in Fluid Cognition. Our findings suggest the NIH TB-CB may be suitable for monitoring cognition in children with TBI.
  • Impact of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury on Sleep Patterns in Younger Individuals: A Systematic Review
Concussions or mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI) are a frequent outcome of contact sports, and adolescents and young adults face a disproportionately higher risk of repeated injury. Prominent sequelae of mTBI observed in younger populations include anxiety, decreased sleep quality, insomnia, and impaired cognitive performance, all of which can extend beyond the acute phase of […]
