  • Sex Differences in Subacute Blood Biomarker Levels and Associations With Post-Concussion Symptom Severity in Adolescents With Concussion
CONCLUSION: This study highlights sex-specific biomarker differences during adolescent concussion recovery and the importance of understanding how sex differences may influence symptom burden and recovery trajectories. Future research should examine hormonal influences on biomarker profiles and prolonged symptomatology.
  • Management of traumatic brain injury in a large-scale combat environment
The United States Armed Forces face the potential reemergence of large-scale combat operations (LSCO) as the predominant operating environment of the 21st century as a result of growing geopolitical conflict between the United States and its near-peer rivals. In a LSCO environment, the Military Health System (MHS) may encounter casualty rates that could quickly overwhelm […]
  • Long-Term Postdeployment Clinical Subtypes of Risk and Resiliency in Brain Injury and Neurodegeneration
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this cohort study of service members, clinical outcome clustering revealed key postdeployment subtypes that evolved over time. Cerebellar and brainstem volumes were significantly different by cluster. Regional differences were evident years before when stratified by these 10-year clusters. These findings underscore the need to appreciate not only the heterogeneity of brain […]
  • Post-traumatic headache phenotypes and clinical characteristics
Background/AimPost-traumatic headache often resembles migraine or tension-type headache, but distinct phenotype and clinical characteristics necessitate further delineation. We aimed to characterize the clinical phenotype, headache patterns, associated features and comorbidities, medication patterns and functional impact of post-traumatic headache in an adult population following mild traumatic brain injury.MethodsThis is a cross-sectional analysis of a cohort of […]
  • Concussion in the Wild: Clinical Utility of Ambulatory Assessment of Symptoms and Everyday Exposures in Adolescents and Adults with Concussion
CONCLUSIONS: Valid estimates of concussion symptoms may be obtained via remote, unsupervised, high-frequency assessment. In addition to EMA-based symptom scores, avoidance behavior and symptom reactivity may yield prognostic information about risk for protracted recovery.
