  • Extracellular Vesicle-Derived microRNAs as Fluid Biomarkers in Neurodegenerative Diseases: A Systematic Review
Given the absence of curative treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, early detection and therapeutic intervention are critical to slowing disease progression. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have emerged as promising biomarkers for neurodegeneration, owing to their accessibility in bodily fluids and dynamic molecular cargo, including microRNAs (miRNAs). The last decade has seen accumulating evidence for miRNA dysregulation in […]
  • P75NTR blockading inhibits Trem2+ M1 phenotype microglia activation and myelin damage following mild traumatic brain injury
The pathological basis underlying mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI)-induced long-term cognitive impairment is not fully understood. It is supposed that mTBI induces residential microglia activation rather than peripheral leukocyte infiltration to promote neuroinflammation, thus triggering myelin damage as well as cognitive impairment. The transformation of microglia towards a pro-inflammatory (M1 type) or anti-inflammatory (M2 type) […]
  • Biofluid-based predictors of post-concussion symptoms: a narrative review of mild traumatic brain injury biomarkers
Mild traumatic brain injury can disrupt brain function and is associated with high morbidity and healthcare utilization. While many individuals recover from mild traumatic brain injury, a significant proportion experience long-term sequelae, collectively known as post-concussion syndrome. Symptoms of post-concussion syndrome include headache, dizziness, insomnia, cognitive processing difficulties and mental health disturbances. The disease burden […]

  • Using Cervical Spine Proprioception and Vestibular/Oculomotor Assessments to Identify Return-to-Play Clearance Prognosis After Adolescent Concussion
CONCLUSIONS: Cervical spine proprioception and vestibular/oculomotor symptom provocation evaluated within 3 weeks of injury were not associated with RTP clearance time, potentially reflecting the complexity and multifaceted nature of RTP decisions.
