  • Enhancing Outpatient Clinic Recruitment: A Quality Improvement Strategy for a Prospective Research Study
CONCLUSIONS: This project demonstrates the successful application of quality improvement methodology toward optimizing clinical recruitment. Approaches used in this study can potentially be generalized to other outpatient clinical populations and research studies.
  • Driving After Concussion: Clinical Measures Associated With Postconcussion Driving
CONCLUSIONS: Dual-task and Complex Figure tests might be useful when assessing postconcussion driving ability. Higher VOMS symptom provocation was associated with better driving performance, possibly indicating that individuals experiencing vestibular-oculomotor symptoms may adopt more cautious strategies.
  • Health Literacy Among Adolescent Athletes Across Rural and Urban Communities and Evaluating Scores Aside State-Mandated Concussion Education
CONCLUSIONS: Urban adolescent athletes had better health literacy compared with their rural peers; however, irrespective of rurality, more than half of participants had low health literacy for their appropriate age/grade in high school (≤seventh grade). Ensuring that health information is provided at an appropriate reading level for the target audience is essential to increasing health […]
  • Effectiveness of intensive exposure therapy for persistent post-concussion symptoms: an aggregated single-case design approach
The fear-avoidance model suggests that catastrophising and avoidance behaviours can maintain persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS) after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Although exposure therapy has shown preliminary success in this population, its effectiveness in mTBI remains unproven. This study investigated the therapeutic effects of this therapy across different settings. Twenty participants with PPCS took part […]
  • Plasma biomarkers in chronic mild traumatic brain injury: A review
Background/Objective: Understanding the biological cascade which results from a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is essential to determine outcomes over time. Acute plasma levels of brain-related injury markers (BRIMS; ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1 [UCH-L1], total tau[t-tau], neurofilament light chain [NfL], S100 calcium-binding protein β [S100β], glial fibrillary acidic protein [GFAP]) are typically elevated in patients […]
