  • Biomarker role in assessing imaging needs for mild cranial trauma (BRAIN-CT): study protocol for a single-center, randomized controlled trial
    INTRODUCTION: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) accounts for a significant proportion of emergency department (ED) visits, but current diagnostic protocols often lead to overuse of computed tomography (CT) imaging, despite low diagnostic yield. The BRAIN-CT trial evaluates the impact of rapid access to TBI biomarkers on decision-making for cranial imaging in patients with mTBI.
  • Spinal Cord Tau and Protein Copathologies Associated With Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy
    CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: This case-control study provides autopsy evidence of a high prevalence of complex spinal pathology in individuals with CTE-NC, supporting the concept of trauma-related encephalomyelopathy.   • Reactive Balance Deficits Differ in People After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Based on Chronicity of Self-Reported Symptoms
    CONCLUSIONS: Reactive balance deficits persist chronically after mTBI and differ between people with acute, sub-acute, and chronic symptoms. These differences suggest people with chronic symptoms may prioritize different aspects of balance control compared to the people in the acute stage of recovery related to functional adaptations to self-reported symptoms.
  • Frequency and Predictors of Persisting Symptoms 1 Year After Early Childhood Concussion
    CONCLUSIONS: PSaC are common after early childhood concussion. Acute symptom burden in the ED predicts PSaC at 1 month. Greater focus on research in this age group and the development of clinical infrastructure is necessary to address these ongoing symptoms.
