• Taking Control of Your Functional Cognitive Symptoms: Workbook-A Novel Intervention
CONCLUSIONS: This promising new multimodality behavioral health intervention can be considered to be in stage 1 (i.e., intervention generation, refinement, modification, adaptation, and pilot testing). Further pilot testing is being conducted and will need to be followed by traditional efficacy testing (in stage 2).
• Hemodynamic Oscillations in Mild TBI During Postural Change: An fNIRS Pilot Study
We demonstrate that low-frequency oscillations (LFOs) in cerebral hemodynamics, measured by frequency-domain functional near-infrared spectroscopy (FD-fNIRS), reflect altered cerebral hemodynamic oscillations in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). In a pilot study of two mTBI and 13 healthy subjects undergoing head-of-bed positional changes, we analyzed total hemoglobin concentration (THC), oxyhemoglobin (HbO), and deoxyhemoglobin (Hb) dynamics using […]
• Normative Data for Single- and Dual-Task Tandem Gait Performance in Collegiate Athletes
CONCLUSION: Our results provide robust normative data for single- and dual-task tandem gait stratified by relevant patient factors that can be immediately used by clinicians and future researchers. Future research should compare the use of individual baseline versus normative data for acute concussion tracking.
• Examination of Resource Utilization and Adverse Outcomes Among Isolated Traumatic Brain Injury Patients Using Modified Brain Injury Guidelines
BackgroundMild traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are often overmanaged, resulting in an inefficient use of time and resources. The Brain Injury Guidelines was developed and subsequently improved as the modified Brain Injury Guidelines (mBIG) to help standardize TBI management. This study evaluates how adopting the mBIG criteria could improve TBI management at our institution.Materials and MethodsThis […]
• Accented Speech Perception in Noise After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSIONS: Individuals who have had a concussion in the past may experience mild impairments in perception of nonnative-accented speech in noise. Additionally, challenging listening conditions may exacerbate existing symptoms associated with mTBI.
