  • Paediatric traumatic brain injury: clinical presentation, treatment approaches, management strategies, and outcomes. Insights from the CENTER-TBI study
CONCLUSIONS: Paediatric TBI differs significantly from non-paediatric cases, with predominantly mild injuries, lower neuroworsening rates, and less intensive management, especially in younger children. Outcomes at six months are generally more favorable in paediatric patients, emphasizing the need for age-specific management strategies in TBI care.
  • Identifying High-Risk Combat Sport Athletes: Position Statement of the Association of Ringside Physicians
Criteria that identify combat sports athletes with significantly increased risk of injury and mortality in combat sports competition include the following:• Age younger than 13 years or older than 35 years (LOE V).• Three consecutive losses, particularly by KO/TKO (professional) or Referee Stops Contest (RSC) (amateur) (LOE III).• Inactivity exceeding 1 year (professional) (LOE V).• […]
  • Mental health trajectory throughout high school football career: a four-year prospective cohort study
INTRODUCTION: Repetitive head impacts may contribute to long-term neurological disorders, including chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and mental health decline often precedes cognitive symptoms. Adolescent athletes are especially vulnerable, yet prospective data on mental health trajectory across high school athletic career are limited.
  • Failure of a single performance validity test matters after traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: Failure of even only one PVT is associated with lower neuropsychological test performance in patients with traumatic brain injury, especially when empirically validated criteria are used that are stratified by injury severity. Such failure does not always reflect malingering but must be interpreted and addressed in the context of patient background characteristics.
  • Can a Single Night of Sleep Deprivation Unmask Human Sleep and Neurophysiobehavioral Impairments During the Post-Acute Phase of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury?
The purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to determine whether, and the extent to which, the challenge of a single night of total sleep deprivation (TSD) unmasks lingering brain health-related deficits in individuals who within the past 3 to 12 months had been diagnosed (yet medically cleared) with a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI+), […]
