  • Chronic traumatic encephalopathy
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by repetitive head impacts from contact sports, physical violence, and other causes. The urgency of the problem is due to the high incidence of pathology, not only in adults, but, most importantly, in the pediatric population. The paper presents a review of the literature in databases […]
  • A pilot study evaluating early psychosocial risk and brain health outcomes in Veterans with mild TBI
The goal of this pilot study was to describe the relationship between early psychosocial risk (i.e., adverse childhood experiences, neighborhood disadvantage, multiple relocations) and brain health outcomes among Veterans with mild TBI. Veterans (N = 76) with mild TBI participated at an outpatient VA. This cross-sectional study involved the collection and analysis of retrospective self-report […]
  • Self-reported head trauma among Native Americans who inject methamphetamine: a cross-sectional study
INTRODUCTION: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant public health concern, with disparities in prevalence and care access among Native Americans. The syndemic relationship between substance use and TBI remains underexplored in Native Americans who inject methamphetamine, a population at high risk for both conditions. This study examines the association between self-reported TBI and substance […]
  • From Head to Toe: Investigating Postconcussion Risks for Lower Extremity Injuries in Young Athletes
CONCLUSION: This study found a significant increase in several lower extremity injuries ≤1 year after a concussion. Additional studies are warranted to better understand the different factors affecting concussion risk, which could include inadequate return-to-sport (RTS) protocols and prolonged vestibular dysfunction.
  • Meta-synthesis of rehabilitation experiences and needs of adolescent patients with mild traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: Medical staff should focus on the feelings, reported needs, and practical difficulties of mTBI adolescents during the rehabilitation period and formulate more personalized rehabilitation strategies for them.
