  • Vulnerability factors for pediatric disorders of gut-brain interaction and implications for functional impairment
CONCLUSIONS: Results support the biopsychosocial model suggesting that patients with p-DGBI are inherently susceptible to developing chronic pain due to biologic vulnerabilities and environmental factors. While infections remain the most reported trigger of p-DGBI symptoms, this study newly identifies other triggers. The association of increased number of vulnerability factors with worse functioning raises the question […]
  • Childhood Mild Traumatic Brain Injury is Reliably Associated with Anxiety but Not Other Examined Psychiatric Outcomes at Two-Year Follow-up, After Adjusting for Prior Mental Health
CONCLUSIONS: Consistent evidence supporting an association between paediatric mTBI and subsequent anxiety was found; however, similar associations were not observed for other mental health outcomes. Regardless of potential causality, children with mTBI are likely to present with high levels of mental health difficulties, and this remains an important comorbidity that clinicians should be aware of.
  • Exploring the diagnostic and prognostic utility of resting state functional MRI connectivity in acute/sub-acute TBI
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Yet, our understanding of the mechanisms of this condition is limited, especially in the acute setting. Here, we investigated the relationship between functional connectivity and common clinical assessments, like the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) at admission and modified Rankin scale at 3-months (mRS) to […]
  • Musculoskeletal Injuries in National Hockey League Goaltenders
CONCLUSION: The most common injuries to NHL goaltenders are proximal adductor injuries, concussions, and MCL sprains. Attention should be paid to the significant number of injuries occurring in the preseason and practice periods.
  • Machine learning approaches for improved understanding of factors associated with history of sport-related concussion
Sport-related concussion (SRC), which accounts for a significant portion of all mild traumatic brain injuries in the United States, can adversely affect quality of life and long-term cognitive function. Identifying the persisting effects of concussion is vital for developing interventions that may reduce the risk of concussion recurrence and progressive neurodegeneration. Development of improved prognostic […]
