  • Association of serum inflammasome proteins and pediatric traumatic brain injury severity
BACKGROUND: Pediatric traumatic brain injury (pTBI) often leads to cognitive, behavioral, and motor impairments. NLRP3 inflammasome proteins, such as ASC and caspase-1, may serve as biomarkers for TBI severity due to their role in neuroinflammation. This study aims to assess the association between serum ASC and caspase-1 levels and TBI severity in pediatric patients.
  • Linking a Deep Learning Model for Concussion Classification with Reorganization of Large-Scale Brain Networks in Female Youth
Concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury, is a significant public health challenge, with females experiencing high rates and prolonged symptoms. Reliable and objective tools for early diagnosis are critically needed, particularly in pediatric populations, where subjective symptom reporting can be inconsistent and neurodevelopmental factors may influence presentation. Five minutes of resting-state (RS) EEG data were […]
  • Neuroprotective Effects of Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound in Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Induced by Repetitive Head Collisions: A Narrative Review
The repeated head impacts experienced by athletes have attracted significant interest from both the public and the scientific community; however, the neurobiological effects following the games are not well understood. For example, a single football match carries the risk of repeated concussive and subconcussive head impacts, which can increase the risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases. […]
  • Comparative predictive validity of a psychological risk screening tool in adults after mild traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSIONS: The STarT-C showed comparable prognostic value for post-concussion symptom outcomes with a battery of psychological questionnaires. Further research should consider if stratified risk using STarT-C high, medium, and low sub-categories improves targeted treatment referral decision making by clinicians and mTBI outcomes.
  • Brain injury contributes to dopaminergic neurodegeneration, Lewy body pathology, and Parkinsonism preclinically with outcomes altered by T cell modulation
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) increases the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) development later in life, but much remains unknown regarding the mechanisms driving this relationship. A single, mild brain injury triggers resident and peripheral neuroinflammatory pathways that are similarly activated in PD patients, which could possibly increase susceptibility to neurodegeneration. In this study, we used […]
