  • Using the Theory of Planned Behavior in Considering the Efficacy of Encountering Concussion Intervention Materials Online
This study employs the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to consider the efficacy of sport-related concussion (SRC) education materials among collegiate club sport athletes. In particular, variations in the targeted behavior (i.e. self-reporting SRC symptoms or other reporting SRC signs in teammates), format (i.e. digital text or video), and the presence of a personal narrative […]
  • Somatic Symptom Disorder After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
CONCLUSIONS: SSD after mTBI is associated with an increased burden of symptoms, comorbidity, and disability. Early identification of at-risk patients appears feasible. SSD may be a useful framework for conceptualizing poor outcome from mTBI in patients with prominent psychological distress and guiding rehabilitation.
  • The Relationship Between Sex, Fatigue, and Post-Concussion Symptoms Differs Between Those With Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Versus Trauma Control and Healthy Control Participants
CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that the vulnerability of females to report elevated PCS in the post-acute period after traumatic injury is specific to those who have incurred a concomitant mTBI. Further, only some subcomponents of fatigue independently explain variance in PCS reporting, with the groups showing variability in these associations. Further work is needed to […]
  • Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) outcomes: Higher odds of adverse mental health when physical function is impaired
PurposeBalance and vestibular disorders have a profound impact on quality of life. Anxiety (ANX) and depression (DEP) are common with dizziness, vertigo, or imbalance. It is unclear whether self-reported anxiety or depression depends on perceived physical function for individuals participating in vestibular rehabilitation (VPT). We hypothesized that individuals with worse physical function would be more […]
  • Predictors of skull fracture and intracerebral pathology after pediatric traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: This paper highlights the burden of TBI in infants and toddlers presenting to the emergency department and highlights the differences in presentation of this common complaint. Better understanding of this population will help to form better strategies or to amend current management practices in order to provide more effective treatment to such patients, especially […]
