  • A Case of Extensive Pneumocephalus Following an Electric Scooter Accident
The use of electric scooters (e-scooters) has rapidly increased in Japan, accompanied by a rise in associated injuries. Severe head trauma can occur even when the Glasgow Coma Scale score suggests a mild injury, particularly when major clinical signs are present. Therefore, careful observation and appropriate management are essential. A 42-year-old woman injured by an […]
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy improves post-concussion symptoms in adults with childhood traumatic brain injury: a retrospective cohort study
Post-concussion syndrome (PCS) following childhood traumatic brain injury (TBI) can result in persistent cognitive impairments that extend into adulthood, yet it remains significantly underdiagnosed and undertreated. This study evaluated the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on chronic neurocognitive symptoms in adults with PCS stemming from pediatric TBI. We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients […]
  • Post-Traumatic Stress, Illness Perception, Concussion Symptoms, and Quality of Life Following Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
BACKGROUND: Working-age individuals with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) often experience persistent post-concussion symptoms (PCS) that significantly impair their quality of life (QoL). Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may act as a psychological mechanism linking PCS to a poorer QoL, while illness perception may influence the extent to which PCS lead to PTSD; these relationships have […]
  • Cumulative and Contextual Effects of Low-Level Blast Exposure on Cognitive Function in Military Personnel: Interactions With PTSD and Mild TBI
CONCLUSIONS: Although LLB exposure alone was not associated with cognitive deficits, it interacted with PTSD and TBI to influence cognitive performance. These findings support the need for integrated assessments of blast exposure, PTSD, and TBI history in evaluating cognitive health among SM/Vs.
  • Peak Power: A Severity Measure for Head Acceleration Events Associated with Suspected Concussions
CONCLUSION: Peak power, a measure based on fundamental mechanics and commonly communicated in sports performance, was the most effective metric associated with HIA1 removals in elite rugby. The study bridges the gap by identifying a consistent HAE severity measure applicable across sexes.
