  • Understanding factors influencing the return to physical activity, perspectives of adults with concussion/mild traumatic brain injury: A qualitative study
Understanding the factors that influence the return to physical activity can help to modify behaviour to enhance the recovery of symptoms and physical activity. We conducted 14 semi-structured interviews to explore the barriers and facilitators to returning to physical activity in adults following a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). The study design was informed by […]
  • Clinical Utility of the Sport Concussion Office Assessment Tool 6 (SCOAT6) and Other Select Multidomain Assessments for Subacute Sport-Related Concussion
CONCLUSIONS: The PCSI, timed tandem gait, and mVOMS components of the SCOAT6 were useful in identifying sport-related concussion. However, verbal cognitive tests, orthostatic vital signs, and clinical balance components were not useful for this purpose. The CP Screen, additional items from the full version of the VOMS, and ImPACT memory and processing speed were also […]
  • Persistent Post-concussion syndrome: pathophysiology, diagnosis, current and evolving treatment strategies
INTRODUCTION: Persistent post-concussion syndrome (PCS) following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) represents a growing global health challenge that significantly impacts patients' quality of life. Despite advances in acute concussion management, there remains a critical need for effective, evidence-based treatments for chronic PCS, as current interventions show limited success in addressing both symptoms and underlying pathophysiology.
  • Time-limited association between plasma transfusion and mortality in pediatric traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: This study reports a significant association between early plasma administration and a lower risk of 4-hour mortality among children with severe TBI that does not persist at or beyond 24 hours. While these data suggest that plasma resuscitation may extend the window for lifesaving intervention, additional prospective data are needed.
  • Comparing the sensitivity and specificity of novel motor assessments for traumatic brain injury
CONCLUSION: MMC-mediated tests are sensitive and specific (compared to traditional clinical tests) and have potential to fill a gap in clinical care of TBI.
