  • The Influence of Menstrual Cycle Phases on Postconcussion Outcomes and Symptom Reporting: A Scoping Review
Concussion is common in sports and often shows sex-based differences in symptom severity and recovery, with female athletes experiencing more severe, prolonged symptoms. Hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle may play a role in concussion, but research on this topic has been limited. Therefore, this scoping review aimed to investigate whether the menstrual cycle phase-both […]
  • The incidence and burden of concussion in men's and women's English professional football
CONCLUSION: These data provide benchmark statistics for concussions in elite English football, enabling comparisons and assessing the efficacy of future concussion prevention strategies. Contextual factors such as sex (women>men), activity (matches>training), and level (international>domestic) influence the incidence and burden of concussion injuries.
  • Prognostic Utility of Immediate Memory and Delayed Recall Assessments for Adolescent Concussion
CONCLUSIONS: The 10-word immediate memory and delayed recall assessments have prognostic utility for PPCS when administered within the first week post-concussion and may help clinicians identify those at greatest risk of developing PPCS.
  • Inflammatory, White Matter, and Neurodegenerative Mechanisms in Fluid Ability Decrements in Chronic Mild-to-Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects millions globally each year, with mild TBI comprising about 75% of cases. While most mild TBI symptoms are resolved within 3 months, some patients experience persistent issues. This study aimed to identify underlying mechanisms contributing to decrements in fluid cognitive abilities in chronic (>6 months) mild-to-moderate TBI. Specifically, the study […]
